The apps on my iTouch aren't working...?

When i try to open the apps on my iTouch, they open for a split second and then close. I've searched about it and all the answers have been to restore the iPod. I have a lot of needed information on my Ipod so i don't want to have to restore it. Also, whenever i plug it into my computer iTunes doesn't recognize it. It doesn't even start charging!! I have tried restarting it (turning the iPod off, holding home and the button on top of the iTouch until the Apple logo appears, then turning it back on) and that doesn't seem to work. Anybody know how to fix this problem?
