It's not anything special. I was trained as a biologist then anthropologist then became a teacher. I have always been interested in research sciences, so I tend to over research for anything- even internet conversations.
Anthropology- the study of man. It runs from studying cultures, language, paleoanthropology (the evolution of man) and archeaology (the history of man). I leaned towards the least fuzzy of the two- paleoanthropology has always facinated me but I was an archeaologist for a few years until not having a perminant home started to get to me.
TERRORISTS? Really? Here in the US many of our political leaders want to give them a lawyer and have a criminal trial. Follow rules of evidence, summon witnesses, and such. Maybe this will cause some military people to take "matters in their own hands" and simply take no prisoners. I personally agree with your list.
Jesus was executed in accordance with the law
Tim McVeigh was executed in accordance with the law
If you support Tim McVeighs execution why wouldn't you support Jesus'? They both broke laws which were punishable by the death penalty, it seems unfair to support one when you dont support the other.
You know what they say: "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter."
Nelson Mandela was a 'terrorist' according to Margaret Thatcher. Until he was released to a hero's welcome, of course, and then like all the other politicians she couldn't wait to kiss his @rse.
An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind...For myself, I've always found that we're all such sinners, we should leave punishment to God...I want to change their minds, not kill them for weaknesses we all possess."
johnno - thats a point I have tried to make a few times with regards the insurgents in Iraq, but apparently that saying doesn't apply when the freedom fighters are killing American soldiers
Like the Muhajadeen in Afghanistan. They were good ol' boys when they were fighting the Ruskies (they even got to be the good guys in a Rocky film!) but once the USSR pulled out they became a bit of a problem. They changed from freedom fighters into terrorists.
I'm not sure that I'd class the insurgents in Iraq as 'freedom fighters' though. There are so many different groups with widely differing agendas - most of which seem to consist basically of wanting to kill all the other groups. The only thing they all seem to have in common is that they hate our guts and want us to get the hell out of their country.
there are a subset of the insurgents that are fighting for freedom in their eyes, but granted, there are now religious rivalry, where before there wasn't.
Holy, I think what johnno is saying is that the insurgents, or as you call them "freedom fighters" have no other agenda other then killing and causing terror amongs the populus of Irag. Yes there are fighters that want Shites to rule and kill Sunni. There are several internal factions that are fighting who never would have had the chance to express themselves if Sadam had not been toppled. Keep to discussion about the Death Penalty as we have had this insurgent, terrorist, hate the US, the US is wrong on several other threads.
There has been religious rivalry between Shi'ites and Sunni's since the Prophet Mohammed died! The problem seems to be that Saddam promoted the Sunni minority and persecuted the Shi'ite majority. With Saddam gone, the 'lid' has been taken off and the pot is boiling over.
It reminds me a bit of Yugoslavia in that respect. As long as Tito was alive it all held together - but waiting for him to go before it all kicked off.
