The depression and WWII, what am i missing?

They say the reason that got us out of the great depression was WWII and the jobs it created. The thing I don't understand is aren't we at war now? matter of fact don't we have two wars? plus I thought this war is even more privatized KBR, Hallibuton, Blackwater, Lockheed-Martin, just to name a few. So shouldn't the employment effect of WWII and the great depression be equivalent to the wars now and our recession? Was really employment that saved the economy or the 290,000 soldiers that died during the war, compared to the 4000+ during these operations?
