The Golden Compass: does lyra's father love her?!?!?

I am reading The Golden Compass and I am so stock with this question! Can't tell weather Lord Asriel loves Lyra or not. I can't tell because of how he acts. At times it seems he does other times not so much! PLEASE TELL ME!
 
that book is NOT called the golden compass - that's the name for the film not the book! the book is called Northern Lights

But to answer your question, he does love her but she is not the idea of a daughter, he wants her to do as she's told but Lyra is wild and uncontrollable.
