Racing Sausages: The Brewers stole seven bases — Ryan Braun had three of them — and Yovani Gallardo allowed two hits over 6 2/3 innings in a 6-0 thumping of the Pirates. The Bucs can't stop nobody on the bases. They've thrown out less than 10 percent of attempted thieves. With the Cardinals also winning, the Brewers remained 2 1/2 back of the wild card. The Pirates are 3 1/2 back and only one game over .500. Gulp.
Rain men: Three games couldn't handle the weather and were postponed. Blue Jays at Yankees, along with Dodgers at Nationals, will be made up with doubleheaders Wednesday. Jays-Yanks will be day/night. L.A./D.C. will be straight up. Phillies at Mets will be made up Thursday. Sorry about losing the day off, fellas.
Red-letter day approaching: Cincinnati reduced its magic number to four to clinch the NL Central after beating the Cubs 3-1. Ryan Hanigan drove in all three runs, Homer Bailey allowed no homers and, in his 11th straight scoreless appearance, Jonathan Broxton picked up the save.
Miami fiesta: After blowing a three-run lead in the ninth, the Marlins completed a rally against the Braves in the 10th with a two-out RBI single by Jose Reyes, who hit a bloop that landed just in front of a diving, stretching, sprawling Jason Heyward. Oh, it must have made Braves fans sick.
Olde English D-esperation: Despite losing starting pitcher Max Scherzer and outfielder Quintin Berry to shoulder injuries along the way, the Tigers managed to rout the Athletics 12-2. Getting two home runs from Miguel Cabrera, including a grand slam, will go a long way toward that. Detroit's bullpen allowing just a run over seven innings helped, too. Scherzer missing any more time would be a huge concern for the Tigers, who still trail the White Sox by three games after Chicago beat Kansas City. But an MRI revealed no structural damage, and Scherzer says he doesn't feel pain — his arm just went "dead." Hopefully it can be revived for his next scheduled start.

• The Angels won for the 15th time in 20 games and moved within 3 1/2 games of the A's for a wild card spot thanks to an 11-3 thumping of the Rangers. Jered Weaver picked up career victory No. 100, backed by an eight-run outburst in the fourth inning.
• Tim Lincecum struck out six in 6 1/3 scoreless innings for the Giants, who beat the Rockies 6-3 and lowered their magic number to clinch the NL West to seven.
• The Astros dropped to 48-100, falling 4-1 at St. Louis. Even if Houston goes 8-6 the rest of the way, it will match last season's franchise-worst 106 losses.
