The Mayan prophecies predicted the end of their civilisation. Will there be

another catastrophe in 2012? The fall of civilisations are said to sometimes coincide with sun spot cycles. The Mayan people predicted accurately the end of their civilisation and the calculations they used suggest an end in 2012 to the last age with possibly the shifting of the magnetic pole giving rise to dramatic climatic changes all over the world as a result of disruption of the gulf stream. Were the Mayan's right in their calculations and if so are we prepared for such a doomsday sinario? (II Thesselonians Ch 1 v 7 - 9)

Thank you Dan and Cardimom - I seek to discover the facts and you are providing them. The Thesselonian reference is to a doomsday sinario!

how do you figure they predicted the end of their civilization? why would they have had a calendar to 2012 if they knew they weren't going to be there?
no one knows when the world will end.

The Mayans did not predict anything. They made a calendar.
And what does II Thessalonians 1:7-9 have to do with a Mayan calendar?

When earths rotation around the sun completes in December of each year, It starts over again immediately and we have January of the next year. it's a regular astronomical cycle, that goes continually. So is the Mayan Calendar-It's just a much longer cycle that is calculated, but it still starts over immediately.

ReCheck your information, dude.

The dates of 12/21/2010 - were FALSE based on a horrible translation from the Mayan to Gregorian.

The actual end date of the Mayan calendar is yet unknown. 12/21/2010 could very well be at least 100 yrs off.

Sorry to bust your little conspiracy there, but facts will be facts.

EDIT: @ Sadies - LMFAO. I have been typing dates ALL day, so it was just habit to put 2010. Good eye there!!!

2012 is just the end of the long count, not of civilization. We have years, decades, centuries, and millenia. What the Mayans did was no different than if we were to make a calender that goes to December 31, 2999.

If such a calender were to be made, lost, and rediscovered hundreds of years from now after we had changed from the Gregorian calender and it had been long forgotten would people in 2995 think it was a prophecy that the world would end in 2999?

The thing I don't get is why people think the Mayans predicted the end of civilization and people take it seriously but those same people disregard the Apocalypse. And why don't they think that one day Fenris' cubs will swallow the sun and moon?

The mayans didn't predict the end of their civilization. The calender was just the end of the lunar cycle, and it would start over again. The world isn't ending in 2012. Okay, about 150,000 people; but not the entire world.
