The Member Depreciation Thread

Well if its something that I enjoy and cherish and they disrespect, your own logic can deduce that I would get annoyed.

Just because my views havent affected the whole world doesnt mean they shouldnt be taken into consideration. Nonetheless I admit everyone has an opnion which you conclude to

So what in your eys do you see as an opportunity and when will it apply?

Its all all about opinions because people were made to be disliked as everyone's not identical

Can I just clarify my position here? I agree with you that it's a bit petty to dislike someone soley due to their taste in books.

I was only disagreeing with your 'it's silly to dislike someone because of their opinion' point. I was using the 'Holocaust' point to show the extreme corollary of such a statement.

You're making me wonder whether you know what 'dislike' means.

Are you sure you don't mean that people were, err, "made" to disagree with one another... you can find something to disagree on with anyone, but that doesn't mean you dislike them.

I think you knew what he meant and just decided to be pedantic and pick out an extreme case where the rule does not apply.

I'll also say that I doubt there's a person here who hasn't taken a dislike to someone over a seemingly petty thing. Some things can bug you, not matter how ridiculous it is for them to do so.

LPK- I never actually linked Harry Potter to the Holocaust. I said that the blanket statement you made regarding opinions ie. that we shouldn't dislike someone because of an opinion would actually lead us to have to like or at least be indifferent to those who's opinions we consider morally repugnant. This is why I thought your logic was skewed.

Ok, ok, this thread is in chat, not D&D, for a reason. This is only a bit of fun!

Don't take it so seriously :p:

People have different opinions. He said he disliked a book, if that upsets you then you will face more challenging opinions in life.

But people are respecting your decision, you just do not seem to respect theirs. We're having a difference of opinion here, and i am respecting it and not disliking you for it, after all who am i to judge people? But all i am trying to say that by labelling someone as a dislikeable person over something so plain as a book is a bit other the top. :)[/QUOTE]
I fully agree with what you said, and you are right, but when i said that I was only referring to opinions on casual things, i would personally find the holocaust scenario as an offensive comment and it would seem more like a statement being said to provoke people. :)

I never disagreed on his stance regarding Harry Potter.

I disagreed with this statement:

'Isn't it a little unfair to decide you dislike someone because they have a different opinion?'

It subscribes to the 'aint everything relative anyway?' school of thought which I find ridiculous.

Opinions play a huge part in making a person who they are- they reflect their interests, their ambitions etc. Something seemingly petty can reflect a lot about a person- it can therefore reflect something which warrants dislike.

The example I gave is not the only instance in which the rule, (though I wasn't aware it was a 'rule' ), would not apply actually. Which is precisely why I would chuck the 'just love/like/ignore those with different opinions 'rule' out the window. It simply doesn't hold.

I will not make another utterance- this is 'Chat' after all. The 'D&D' in me burst out. ;)

you can make utterances as long as they are somewhat spammy and light hearted :p:

But its like what Spig said, my dislike for someone is based on the fact that I disagree on their opinion. Just because its a book does not diminish that fact

I did say that on my earlier point

To be honest I dont see it that way, especially due to the success of the series. No matter you seem to be more diplomatic in your approach and yes I have noticed we are having a disagreement on this matter but due to your welcome nature I do not dislike you

I used to like H&R, felt good to be useful, but sometimes the problems get awfully samey and some are just ridiculous, so I got fed up with it!

D&D is indeed scary.
