The real Elizabeth Bathory?

Ive heard that to. Stoker probably didn't know a lot about Vlad but may well have gotten the idea for Dracula from stories he heard about Vlad.

Are you saying Catholic and Anglican are the same? Im not religous so i don't know.

No - the terms as they are now are very different. Henry always was Catholic, it is just he was not ROMAN Catholic at the end.

It is actually fascinating - give it a read up if you get the chance

Another interesting historical rumor, Michael Bright in his book Man Eaters states that hired killers in medaeval Europe dressed in animal skins and used an iron claw to kill their victims, which may be how the werewolf myth got started.

I thought this was a thread to discuss the likely truth of one specific historical rumour, not just to start firing them out whenever they come to mind.

Don't take a strop. I'd find it an interesting topic if there was some discussion going on, so in the interests of getting what I want, I'm going to request some discussion.

May I request that you expand on that? For it is a topic of interest to me, and I am desirous of greater knowledge of the subject!

Then we get a more detailed thread, and I'll be damned if I'm not a happy bunny

There are rare diseases that cause abnormal hair growth, causing a mans body to become covered with hair. Also a full moon does seem to have an effect on some people, especially if they're mentally unbalanced to begin with. Its more likely those things led to the werewolf myth.

Yes indeed. I have hairy legs, hairy back, chest and arms.

I am not bald. My hair is lost.

As for the full moon, I used to be a werewolf, but I'm alright naooooooowwwwww.

I would like to offer my congratulations to Simon's jokes on the telegram they received from the Queen on their hundreth birthday......

I'm here all week.

Also you know damn well you were thinking the same thing.

There are "werewolf" stories stemming from ancient Greece - a quick Google turns up a story by Petronius (27-66AD), way before medieval times...

At uni, we had one professor who was adamant that vampires didn't exist, saying it was human bodies expanding with gases and bursting from their graves...

This was a bit weird... I did zoology... :/
