It really comes down to whether or not you like Stephen King's work. I haven't seen Rose Red but I have watched The Stand miniseries. It was pretty faithful to the book minus some necessary character removal. I guess it's sort of an "old" movie so the quality of the video is on par with those of the 90's but the acting is quite good, especially with the villain Randall Flagg. It is a mini series (as the book was quite long) so I guess it would really have to spark an interest in order for you to be willing to watch all six hours. I would label it as having some common post apocalypse themes, like the fall of civilization and the battle for resources. But on a whole, I'd say the main theme of the story is belief/faith, like why the survivors were spared and the Armageddon-like final battle between good and evil. Personally I think the conclusion was a flop, a deux ex machina, but overall it's a great movie. Captivating plot, deep characters, great dialog. The six hours is worth it
