"1715 BST: Meanwhile in Brazil, about half the population have been given official permission to leave work early in time to be able to watch the match on television. The Sao Paulo Stock Exchange will close at 1500 Brazil time - one hour before kick-off which is at 2000 BST."
Actually, when football was invented, there were no official rules…teams would make their own rules. In turned out that at Rugby School, players kicked and picked up and ran with the ball, while at Cambridge University, the ball was only kicked (known as "The Cambridge Rules")
It was for this reason "half time" was created. When the two teams played each other, to settle disputes regarding who rules to play, the would start with one teams rules, then stop the game in the middle, and switch to the other teams rules.
When the FA (Football Association) was formed, they rejected the rule allowing the ball to be handled, and based the game of football mainly around the Cambridge Rules, which resulted in Rugby's version of the game becoming it's own sport, Rugby Football, or just Rugby.
We invented the game; at least the modern game and its rules, and it’s always been referred to as football.
Hey I came across a good article I was reading here on the net regarding how US's loss is going to make it harder for us to gain Soccer fans.
