The World Cup

couldn't agree more.

should have pushed them all game and got some goals in the bag in case they become important later on.

they'll have to play alot better than that if we're gonna get to the semi's and beyond.

but that said, they got three points, which is a good opener.

we'll see what happens on thursday.

What a great performance from Trinidad and Tobago !
Especially after seeing them against Wales. That throws a spanner into the workings of Group B anyway. Can't wait to see Argentina v Ivory Coast. Should be an interesting match in one of the tougher groups.

Wow. The World Cup is really gonna mess up my training

Damn, I can hardly wait until tomorrow... we're up next against Serbia & Montenegro.

My prediction: 3-1 for The Netherlands

England v. Paraguay - England did just enough, but wilted badly in the heat. Sven showed he still hasn't really got the hang of tactical substitions yet, and the decision to take four strikers, two of which are unfit and one of which is still in nappies is starting to look increasingly suspect. But at least we won. Paraguay just aren't the team they were in the last two world cups, but still no pushovers. Offered little threat up front though. Won't qualify this time round.

T&T v. Sweden - ballsy performance from T&T, especially having to play effectively the entire second half with ten men. Looked superb in defence, apart from A.John, who defended like a Kamikaze pilot with an empty tank. Thoroughly deserved their point, and will be very tough for England to break down. Sweden actually played pretty well in my opinion, but it was just 'one of those days'. They ran into a brick wall of a defence.

Argentina v. Ivory Coast - best game of the tournament so far. Argentina had just a touch more class, and were more clinical, but Ivory Coast were always in contention against one of the tournament favourites.

Johnno's verdict - England and Sweden should still qualify, but T&T will come out of the tourno with their reputation enhanced.

Argentina will probably top the 'group of death' but Ivory Coast might just qualify too. The Dutch and the Serbs won't be relishing their games against either team. This group makes a total mockery of FIFA's seeding system.

Argentina really dragged their game down after those 2 goals. I mean its an understandable strategy but keeping 9 men in your half at all times hardly makes for an exciting game. I was really rooting for Ivory Coast in the end because they were always pushing forward and their was alot of energy to their game. Argentina on the otherhand seemed content to waltz along till the final whistle. Wasn't impressed with Argentina in case you can't tell...

lol. Argentina were a bit unadventurous at the end, but I think England were more boring. At least Argentina had their moments, England were crap. The thing is, we've seen it so many times before and we never learn our lesson. If things don't pick up I may have to renounce my citizenship.

Wasn't impressed with the Argentine substitutes....
Pelacio contributed nothing except being offside a few times
Gonzalez, didn't see much of him

Argies only have Crespo as their quality out-and-out striker, but they have Messi and Tevez and Saviola who can all play behind him.
I certainly want to see Messi and Tevez get their chance this tournament.

Definatly. I've got Messi on my fantasy league team and I've heard a lot about Tevez, even though the only time I've seen him play is in the Olympics.

Yeah, good finish from Robben. Though I've been a bit disappointed with Serbia's attack, after hearing so much about their defence they haven't put enough pressure on a Dutch defence which doesn't look rock-solid.

Holland get the opening win they were looking for despite never finishing off a Serb team which got better in the second half, though lacked the quality to create any clear goalscoring chances.

I expected a bit more from both teams. Any one else think the Ivory Coast might cause an upset at Holland's expense?

Man of the Match: Arjen Robben
Holland's biggest threat to the Serb defense, his pace caused problems throughout the game and showed good composure in claiming the only goal.

Rednecks know the biggest sporting event in the world is the Daytona 500 NASCAR race. What's better than getting drunk while watching cars go around in a circle?

Ok, that's sarcasm; I can't stand NASCAR. I get more enjoyment out of watching grass grow. And as un-American as it is, I find Baseball to be the greatest celebration of under-achievement in the history of sport. Where else can a guy only be successful 30% of the time and still be called a 'professional' while getting elected to the hall of fame?

While American Football is my favorite, I enjoy watching the World Cup. I wish it got more media coverage in America and that Americans were more interested in the event. I don't know much about the game beyond the basics, but I appreciate the subtlety involved and the passion the rest of the world brings to the event.
