The World Cup

Ok Ronaldo is one of the most irritating footballers in the world, but I think everyone's being a bit harsh on him.

The reason that we're out of the world cup is that we played terribley in all our matches, we have a crap manager but brought the worng squad to the world cup and then picked the wrong teams when we got here. Not because C. Ronaldo acted like an idiot.

I totally agree that we are out because we are rubbish.

But the fact remains that Conaldo is a diving cheat. FIFA promised to crack down on diving, but sadly it has been worse than ever. He certainly isn't the only one, but he's one of the worst. His antics last night were a total disgrace. If I was Portuguese then I'd be ashamed of him - just like I was ashamed of Steven Gerrard when he dived for a penalty in that pre-tourno friendly.

Tabloid Wayne has lost the plot a few times when things have'nt been going well. Can't condone it - but having a tantrum isn't as bad as deliberatley and cynically cheating. One thing I'd say in Rooney's favour is that he always tries to stay on his feet.

Avert your eyes, Englanders! This contains possibly disturbing images of those honest (Trademark: English media), fair (Trademark: English media), righteous (Trademark: English media), sporting (Trademark: English media), lionhearted (Trademark: English media) warriors (Trademark: English media).....English football players!

Taff, what are you on about? Most of those divers weren't English football players. England were probably the most honest team out there, I dont recall any English players going down without reason (during the World Cup)

But there were English players in there diving. Who would have thought it? I was under the impression that they were far too honest and noble to indulge in such skullduggery. Steven Gerrard? No better than Deco! Wayne Rooney? No better than Ronaldo!

show me an England player diving at the World Cup, that is what this discussion is centred around, not what happened 5 years ago in the Premiership.

Oh, for the record, after Portugal's game, I retract my diving statement. It could have been the 10m high dive for all I care.

As for that video, Drogba didn't dive that much in the Cup did he? I don't remember seeing anything like that.

That gets me riled. Similarly, when they are referred to as "warriors". That happened in one of the WC games the other day. ITV commentators referred to Sol Campbell as a "lionheart" for scoring a goal against Barcelona in the Champions League Final. It wasn't very honest of him though. Since the free kick came from a diving Arsenal player....

Subject: England v Brazil

You may or may not...

It is just before England v Brazil at the World Cup. Ronaldino goes into
the Brazilian changing room to find all his team-mates looking a
bit glum.
"What's up?" he asks.
"Well, we're having trouble getting motivated for this game.
We know it's important but it's only England. They're and we can't
be bothered".
Ronaldino looks at them and says "Well, I reckon I can beat these by
myself, you lads go down the pub."
So Ronaldino goes out to play England by himself and the Rest of the
Brazilian team go off for a few jars.
After a few pints they wonder how the game is going, so they Get the
landlord to put the teletext on. A big cheer goes up as the screen reads
"Brazil 1 - England 0 (Ronaldino 10minutes)". He is beating England all by
himself!
Anyway, a few more pints later and the game is forgotten until someone
remembers "It must be full time now, let's see how he got on". They put the
teletext on.
"Result from the stadium"Brazil 1 (Ronaldino 10 minutes) - England 1 (Owen
89 minutes)".
They can't believe it, he has single handedly got a draw against England!!
They rush back to the Stadium to congratulate Ronaldino.
They find him in the dressing room, still in his gear, sat with his head in
his hands.
He refuses to look at them. "I've let you down, I've let you down."
"Don't be daft, you got a draw against England, all by yourself. And they
only scored at the very, very end!"

"No, No, I have, I've let you down... I got sent off after 12 minutes...."

Oops! Wrong guessing I just made it cos in Taiwan soccer is as popular as snowboarding in Argelia

Basically I missed the whole WC event

Well, France-Italy. Mmm...Hard guess. Anyone could win especially if they end up in penalty shootout.

Anyway, realistically if fairness was in play then Italy, Portugal and France would be out, and Argentina and England in. That would be more fair, especiallly with Argentina (my all time favourite team even though I am not Argentinian.)

Fairness would've made those penalty kicks for England? Fairness would've stopped the penalties that took out Argentina?

You can't blame losses on "unfairness" when the games are tied after 120 minutes. France and Italy are in the finals for one reason: they did what they were supposed to do--advance from their groups and win every game after that. To say that either team is undeserving is absurd.
