Things that make you go GRRRRR.... (Part 2)

Adds Chimpcheng to the 'to be ninjered' list...

Yep. The whole franchise has been cancelled. Sniffle!

Oh shizzle! That just sucks sweaty armpits! Can't they just make things till a concluson any more and actually think of the fans that like and support the show?

The problem is that they don't care about the long term fans of the show until they stop watching (at which point it's often too late). They care about keeping the casual viewers (who have the ratings recording boxes) and attracting new viewers in the hopes of boosting the ratings. Unfortunately by doing this, with the various incarnations of Stargate over the last few years, they have lost a lot of their long term core viewers (in particular a lot of the female demographic who were one of the biggest sections watching) and not gained enough new ones to compensate for this. They also messed various fan groups round, promising resolution to certain storylines again and again, yet never delivering on this, which added to the numbers of disillusioned fans leaving the show.

The problem is what appeals to the majority is what gets renewed (look at all the crappy 'talent' shows and 'reality' tv we get bombarded with). With scifi you have to factor in the effects budget on top of normal running costs, so if it starts to lose viewers it often gets cancelled. I think that as cgi becomes more prevalent (and cheaper) on tv this might start to change. Have you seen any 'Sanctuary'? The majority of the sets on that show are computer generated and it is often difficult to spot when they're using a proper set or the whole set is virtual and the actors shot on green screen.

Agreed, still pisses me off though that they do fund the rubbish such as seriously unfunny sit-com's and the aformentioned 'reality' trash. I suppose I should just try and console myself with my obvious mental and psychological superiority for not actually liking the utter tripe that apparently is so popular.

Sanctuary: I do watch it although i'm still not sure whether I like it. It has so much potential yet it always seems to miss the mark, although to be fair I found the end of the last season very good (Big Bertha storyline) and I have not yet got around to watching the latest series to see where it leads. The SFX are very good for the most part, much better than some big budget movies of recent.

Frankly, this thread title isn't Grrrrrrr enough to express the disappointment I feel when I have no decent Sci-Fi to lose myself in.

That's what I do!

I'm enjoying Sanctuary but, at the moment, I don't see it becoming one of my 'classic' shows. I like the strong female lead, but some of the stories are a bit too cheesy. Like you, I think it has excellent potential. I've only seen seasons 1 and 2 so far as well.

Agreed! I'm just going to have to content myself with my scifi dvd boxed sets of various shows.

I'm mildly annoyed at an otherwise good friend for a comment he made implying I don't 'earn' the amount of food I eat. If he'd said 'Haha, you eat like a pig' I'd get that that was a joke, but saying you don't earn things doesn't really seem like a joke.

I mean...I have a job and I contribute to the housekeeping, how is that not earning it? In addition, I'm still technically "underweight" (rectus abdominis and obliques notwithstanding, LOL). Just gaining and maintaining 2 kilograms was a huge achievement. And here is someone in my face telling me I didn't earn the right to eat and should go even lighter? Yeah, thanks for that, I'll just stop eating and kill myself.

I realize he probably didn't mean to be insulting; he probably didn't even think about what he was saying, but he's an adult. It would be nice if he used his brain before verbally having diarrhea everywhere. Is it ok if I call him a fat moron because I wasn't thinking about it?

Is it anything like Firefly/Serenity? I finally got around to watching it a couple of months ago, pretty good in parts.

Stargate is a a lot more like America verses the universe and saves the world every week.

Been up since 04.30, sat at my desk at 06.30 (all as normal), but have to go out tonight and meet some of our engineers and point them in the right direction on a job.
Don'texpect to be home til 1.00am. I'm already tired.
Early mornings are easy, but come 10.00pm and I'm done in.

Grrrrr! I had a crappy lifting session tonight. I couldn't get my 85kg deadlift, struggled with 80kg and 82.2kgs and had to resort to negatives only on my pistols. Grrrrrrr!

Don't you start. Listen to your own advice.

Women, always changing the rules. Grrrrrrr.

SMACK - the pair of you!

It's probably because I've had a couple of nights recently that I haven't slept very well and it might also be hormonal!

I'm just grumpy because I wanted to max out with a 87 or 88kg deadlift tonight.
