well, i only learned last week with help of the parkour guys. basically, what i've found works for me in terms of getting into the headstand is to try to let your weight drop onto your head and push diagonally with your arms until you can get your hips high and your core stabilized, then you tighten up and use your legs to finish getting into the posture (easiest way is by tucking and extending, while a kick-up is harder to stabilize but quicker once you get the hang of it). handstand is similar but you need heaps more arm and core strength, as you have one less base of support (i've also seen looking at the ground recommended as a stabilization aid). hope that helps
