I've been trying the minimalist shoe approach this week and I suspect I need to ease into it more carefully. I might drop the skipping (even though I do it on padded mats) or a road session and replace it with a cycling session - if I can be bothered to clear a path in the garage so I can get my bike out!
GRRRRRRRRR at falling back into my old patterns. thought i was over that crap. at least i'm better now (cheers to a good friend for having a listen and letting me vent). i really need a fricking life, FFS...
Just saying. Sounds like you have shin splints from not wearing proper running shoes. Run bare footed or wear proper running shoes Or cycle or just eat cake and get fat.
I suspect it's more DOMS than actual shin splints, but I'm going to cut down some of the higher impact work and replace it with a cycle sessions just to be safe.
I got owned on a run this morning Couldn't find the right pace, would have been sick if there was anything to be sick with. Yet when I picked it back up was able to sprint the last mile. I think it'll be evening runs from now on
I did though, hit a wall after 4 miles and didn't feel right, stopped at the Ferry Path bridge, walked most of the Stourbridge bit which loops back (at least I know it wasn't far, when I could see the Railway bridge I felt like an idiot) picked it back up after the loop and finished at my house (instead of the marked end), so did about 5.25 mi but dropped about a mile on the planned 6 at 4.25. Grrrr. Oh and breakcore doesn't work as running music alas, I'll need to tag a song onto my favourite Deftones album to make it (and me) last the distance. http://gb.mapometer.com/running/route_1455847.html
Sometimes having a crappy session is your body telling you to ease off, take a break or try something new or sometimes (with you being female) it's a hormonal thing. I had a crappy workout yesterday and had really low energy today for my weights session and I'm wondering if it's hormonal. I managed most my lifts today (had to drop one rep on my front squats and did some partials with the GHRs) but felt really low and depressed during the session. It could also be 'life' related as well - if things aren't going well in the rest of your life, it can have a carryover to exercise.
Grrrrrr! The battery on my cycle computer has run out and will cost a fortune to replace if I get it sent away to be sealed under pressure to keep it waterproof. I hate not being able to record distance, max and average speed and rpms when out for a cycle!
