Things that make you go :-)) take two!

Nice one KE!

Yay me! Physio has discharged me and said I can get back to judo and BJJ, if I take it easy, don't introduce too much too soon and don't do anything that hurts. He also said the same about lifting and that I should work on lifts that strengthen my back muscles. He did say that if the pain gets worse to go back to my GP and if I'm still getting twinges in 6 months I should consider getting an injection to see if that will help reduce any residual tendon inflaofftopiction.

My problem now is whether to start Judo (with the high impact from throws) or BJJ (with more emphasis on joint locks) both of which have potential techniques which could irritate my shoulder or just add in some more lifts to help my back for the next month or so.

squat as isometric stretch = win

also frodo, can't you simply ask to drill only techniques that won't involve your wonky shoulder? otherwise i'd suggest sticking with the lifting. i suspect my own wonky shoulder would be fine if i hadn't started using it again almost immediately

i have just read the most epic thing ever:

"a cake makes a poor hammer no matter how well it is baked"

That's probably what I'll end up doing initially, drilling and avoiding locks on that shoulder and sparring. I've done it before with other injuries and although it's frustrating not being able to roll, it's better than not training at all. The big decision is whether to do judo or BJJ. I'm leaning towards BJJ because it's easier to control the ground work than the impact from a throw.

Frodo, you defiantly want to be nailing the face pulls, Y raises, rear delt flyes and hang cleans if they're safe.

KE well done mate, never really done them to be honest, I can't do any standing overhead work at my current gym (6 foot 5 in a basement dungeon gym) but I'm pleased for you buddy!

Cleans still cause a bit of pain, so I'll be avoiding them for the time being. I need to see if I can rig up my multigym for face pulls (they're on my list of things to attempt), not sure about the flyes and the y raises (I suspect the y raises may hurt at the moment). I'm just rereading some of Eric Cressey's shoulder stuff for some tips and hints.

Cheers. Yes, I'm blessed to have an outdoor covered carport-type thing that's tall enough for overhead lifting. I've re-started my crossfit habit. I kind of miss it. My theory is that I have an abusive relationship with crossfit- it keeps hurting me and yet I keep coming back

Best.

Holiday.

Ever.

Though the vegetarian diet is able to clear even my own kids from the pool.

The all cheese and croissant diet even took its toll on me!
