we allow gay marriage? Okay, so this isn't much of a question, but to any of the ignorant people out there who actually stand by my above statment "This country was founded on god, we must have forgotten about him, which is why we allow gay marriage" This country was also founded by people who believed in slavery. Does that mean we've forgotten about slavery, and we should go back to that? Sorry, but I just heard someone say that statement to me earlier, and I didn't think there were still stupid people like that existing in our society...It just really angers me that number one, there are fake Christians who are brainwashed, and two, that people somehow think it's okay to mix religion and politics.
Btw, I'm in no way saying all Christians are ignorant. My own father is a christian, who actually accepts me for who I am, regardless of my sexual orientation.

This country was NOT founded on God. Most of the "Founding Fathers" were Theists and Atheists.

The spiritual father of the United States - and the person who first used the term - was the English philosopher Tom Paine, who was an atheist.

Paine was given a confiscated farm for his retirement by Thomas Jefferson, but once the colonial army had used Paine's ideas to justify their revolution they decided they didn't like his atheism after all.

The USA was actually the first nation ever founded on atheist beliefs (the French Republic was the second).

Fortunately the American education system keeps people ignorant of this (and a lot else beside).

I agree with you, "appeal to tradition" is a commonly used logical fallacy, and can be used to advocate everything from keeping women in their "rightful place" in America, to propagating and justifying genital mutilation in modern Africa. Just because something has always been done one way versus another way, this doesn't prove it has merit...

I'm sure u are speakin of USA.

The god that country was founded on wasn't a real god. It was one created from religions...religions that were made up by men....who then blamed the god for created em.

And yeah people will argue all about anything and make up false facts to fit whatever they wanna say. Religion is brainwashing...plain and simple. I ignore it.

A significant number of the founding fathers were not Christians, though.
