No. 1 Star: Ben Scrivens, Toronto Maple Leafs

The rookie won his first NHL start with a 38-save effort, as the Toronto Maple Leafs moved to 9-3-1 with a 4-1 victory over the hapless Columbus Blue Jackets. Clarke MacArthur scored twice, and John-Michael Liles scored his first for the Leafs. Said Ron Wilson: "He is economical in his moves and he has a lot of poise. They are a team that gets a lot of traffic, and with big forwards crashing the net, he withstood that well."

No. 2 Star: Jarome Iginla, Calgary Flames

Reunited with Olli Jokinen, to the skepticism of Flames fans and media, Iginla scored a power-play goal in the second, an even-strength goal in the third and set up Jokinen's empty netter in Calgary's 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings. Lee Stempniak had the other tally.

No. 3 Star: Pekka Rinne, Nashville Predators

Quite the 29th birthday for Rinne: Signing the biggest contract in franchise history and then earning his 23rd career shutout in a 3-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes. Jonathon Blum, Matt Halischuk and Patric Hornqvist had the goals. Rinne made 35 saves.

Honorable mention: Patrik Elias beat Sergei Bobrovsky in the shootout to complete a New Jersey Devils' rally for a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Adam Henrique scored his first NHL goal; Ilya Kovalchuk had two assists; David Clarkson tied the game at 13:25 of the third from Elias. Claude Giroux scored his eighth for the Flyers. … Erik Christensen and Marian Gaborik scored in the shootout and Henrik Lundqvist made 27 games in the game, as the New York Rangers topped the Anaheim Ducks, 2-1. Bobby Ryan, from Perry and Getzlaf, had the Ducks' goal. Jeff Woywitka scored his first for the Rangers. Jonas Hiller had a nice bounce-back game with 24 saves. … Awesome game between the Florida Panthers and Chicago Blackhawks, as Ed Jovanovski scored at 17:56 of the third to send the game to overtime and Patrick Kane won it with this nasty move against the otherwise stellar (31 saves) Jacob Markstrom. Corey Crawford made 41 saves for the Blackhawks in their 3-2 win.

Ondrej Pavelec made 34 saves for his seventh career shutout, as the Winnipeg Jets whitewashed the New York Islanders, 3-0. Evander Kane, Johnny Oduya and Alex Burmistrov had the goals. … In the night's other shutout, Nikolai Khabibulin continued his resurrection with a 19-save performance over the Los Angeles Kings in a 3-0 victory. Ryan Smyth scored the opening goal against his old team. Lennart Petrell notched his first NHL goal. … After Dan Hamhuis opened the scoring for the Vancouver Canucks, the Minnesota Wild scored five straight to give Josh Harding another win, 5-1. Matt Cullen had two goals and an assist, as the Wild peppered Cory Schneider with 45 shots. … Thomas Greiss made 29 saves in relief and three more in the shootout, as the San Jose Sharks defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins, 4-3. Ryane Clowe had the game-winner. Evgeni Malkin scored two goals; Clowe and Jamie McGinn scored in the third to rally the Sharks. … Good scrap between Clowe and Deryk Engelland here:

Did you know? Max Talbot scored on a penalty shot against Johan Hedberg. His only previous penalty shot attempt in the NHL, back in 2009-10? Against Johan Hedberg, who made the save while with the Atlanta Thrashers.

Dishonorable mention: Antti Niemi was pulled after giving up two goals on six shots in the first 2:04 of the game. … Steve Mason was pulled by the Blue Jackets after giving up four goals on 11 shots in 25:26. … James Wisniewski was a minus-4 with zero points and one shot on goal, as the Jackets were 0-for-4 on the power play. … Detroit lost its sixth in a row. Henrik Zetterberg was a dismal 2-for-14 on faceoffs. … Brent Burns and Paul Martin were both a minus-3. … Wojtek Wolski left the Rangers' game with his wonky groin. … James van Riemsdyk of the Flyers and Andy Greene of the Devils were both scratched before game time due to injuries. Kovalchuk didn't play in the shootout due to a "lower body injury." … Danny Briere, who was a minus-3 for the Flyers, sparked a controversy with this shootout move against the Devils. … Dishonorable mention to Cal Clutterbuck for accidentally punching a linesman in the face twice, and to Maxim Lapierre and Dan Hamhuis for their actions near the Canucks' bench. Kudos to linesman Darren Gibbs for being able to take a punch.
