Timesplitters: Future Perfect won't work on my PS2?

Like i hav the old PS2. the big and bulky one. and i bought this game many times cuz i always thought the disc was busted until 2day when i bought it 4 the last time and it STILL wouldn't work. y is that? I hav done everything. cleaned the disc, put the PS2 horizontal so the disc would work better. everything. plz tell me y! :(
I want 2 buy the slim but like i dont wanna waste my money if the game wont work on that thing either....
