I've always wondered why rioters always burn down or destroy their own neighborhoods, DUH, that makes a lot of sense. Why are the brits always rioting anyway? Its either soccer or some such nonsense like that...

Because they believe they have nothing to lose (actually a few times that idea came up during the riots). In the past I've talked to a few individuals (not London rioters) who have trashed their own homes (more often then not government provided housing) because they believed that there was no loss in their actions.

It's not the Brits who are always rioting. There are no riots in Scotland, Wales or even Northern Ireland at the moment.

Now that the riots have calmed down, I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that no matter how awful you think the riots were, it still doesn't make David Cameron any less of a Div. Thank you.

I didn't like Cameron before and frankly the way he's behaved during these riots and the attempts to use them to score political points and rush through new legislation have totally sickened me again him. Just when you think the Tories can't sink any lower or appear any more desperate they go and prove you wrong.

And how would the leader of another party have done it better?

Let's not use the arguement that we would not have got into this mess if labour were in charge, let's assume the riots took place whoever was in charge.

Interesting how all the human rights lawyers and ministers are coming out now complaining about the scum being over punished. Shame they never had the same passion for victims when scum and beasts where either not sentenced or had such a pathetic sentence it was really a middle finger to the victims. never heard human rights and ministers complain then.

4 years for a few facebook posts is excessive, particularly when you consider that many of the people convicted of actual rioting have been given significantly shorter sentences and someone else convicted of the same offence was only given a three month curfew. It is guaranteed to be shortened on appeal. All that judge has done is passed on the cost of the appeal to the UK taxpayer.

I'm all for tough justice, but it still has to be justice.

Well on the legal front there's a 10 year sentence for rioting before you get a one third discount for pleading guilty, then you're likely to only serve half of that sentence in prison anyway.

So really the four year sentences aren't as bad as it could be.
