Toyota Echo Brake Problem?

Couple days ago, I had a car accident on freeway. I was driving a Year 2000 Toyota Echo and when I stepped on the brake, the car speeded up and therefore I hit on someone’s car. My car was total. When I checked the internet, I found that Toyota actually initiated a recall for this car model in the past, but I was not notified.
My question is, would there be any possibility I can get any compensation from Toyota if I file a lawsuit? Is it worth doing so? Did anybody do that before?
