I have a toyota prado diesel that ran out of oil. the engine knocked and i had to have it openned and repaired. Everyone is telling me to sell it. They say that once an engine is openned that it never works the same again. Is this true?

All new parts are genuine Toyota. The mount was fine but the pistons had to be replaced.

I just replaced a 2TR gasoline engine on an '05 Prado that knocked. The temp got so high that the whole engine was condemned. The replacement was a fairly-used one. I also changed the ATF just to be on the safe side being that the temp was really high. So far so good with the ride, in fact the owner says it hasn't been that smooth a ride for a couple of years. Yours appears to have been a half-engine replacement. If the job was properly done then you shouldn't have any issues for another 3 or 4 years. Adhere to stipulated maintenance schedules. Good luck.
