tractor bell housing question?

I am going to look at a 1993 Massey Feruson 29 horsepower 4x4 tractor tractor tomorrow with a front loader. The owner states that the bell housing is cracked on the machine. what exactly is the bell housing? and how would I fix it? cost to fix? price of parts?

The bellhousing holds the transmission to the engine and transfers the torque.
