transferring android apps through sd?

i just recieved a tablet that has the android operating system but does not have the android market. there are many android apps i would love to have but dont know how to get them. i have herd there are other markets i can use but idk wich ones will give me about the same apps and i have heard there is a wasy to put apk files on an sd and transfer them to my device yet idk how to get the apk tfiles. can someone please help me. i do not have all day access to wireless for my device so i need apps so i cant actually use it for something
