transferring warranty?

i am interested in a car and it has extended warranty up to 120,000 miles. the seller said the warranty is from a dealer in new york and im in michigan. the seller is in michigan also. is the warranty transferable and how would it work if its from a new york dealer?
 
Extended Warranties aren't from the dealer. The dealer just sells them. Almost all extended warranties are provided by a 3rd party independent insurance company that specializes in automotive warranties.

Get a copy of the warranty contract from the seller. Contact the warranty company and ask them what it takes to transfer the warranty. If the warranty is legit and it is still valid (and the company that sold it is still in existence) they will provide you with the details. Generally all it takes is a form filled out and mailed in along with a small transfer fee. I transferred a warranty for a Cadillac I bought a few years ago and it was simple and it only cost me $25 to process the transfer paperwork.
