I am a recreational shooter and hunter living in peoples republic of Kalifornia. I live on a street where a middle school is to my right and a grade school to my left. In california there is a 1000 feet rule where no one can possess a firearm within that radius of a k-12 school. When i transport my firearm it is unloaded and locked in my trunk, the ammo is stored in a locked ammo box. So am i violation the law by driving within 1000 feet of the school, since i have no alternative street to take that would be beyond 1000 feet.
It would also be great if someone can advise on varous ways to get C&R licence in Kalifornia

Great question. Special exception is given to those resideing within the school zone, and federal law also gives exception for travelling with a firearm. CCW holders have similar issues. According to CA law, the gun must be unloaded and in a secured case. The ammo must be stored seperate from the gun and the gun must be out of reach of the occupants. Follow those rules and you should have no issue. Not all cops understand or care to interpret the law in normal (common sense) fashion however, so even though you may be well within your rights, i would be discreet.
