ticket for the return trip? I've never been to Europe before. I hear these open ended tickets cost 50-100% more than the standard plane tickets. I'm planning on visiting Spain and probably Italy. (Considering maybe Madrid, Barcelona, through France along the southern coast, and into Rome). Originally my idea was to spend 3 weeks to a month in Europe. But a friend suggested getting these tickets because you won't know how long you'll actually want to stay there.
Is it worth getting these tickets, or should I just get round trip tickets instead? Will I be constantly worrying that I have to be at the Rome airport by such and such a date?
Also, if I do wind up getting these tickets, should I get the return trip out of Rome , or instead get it at the same city where I arrive? I hear it is cheaper to get the open ended plane ticket out of the same city where you arrive. I don't know how much cheaper though -- If I arrive in Madrid, for example, I would obviously need to return from Rome to Madrid somehow, which will cost some money, so I'm not sure it would wind up being cheaper on balance.
Any thoughts?
