Travelling with your dog/puppy in the car?

As some of you may know I am going on a holiday soon. Its not that far away, we'll be about 3 hours in the car.

Is there anything I should know about travelling with my puppy?

Can you please give any tips about travelling with my puppy? What I'll need to bring, some tips on how to keep her cool if its hot etc.

Another thing is how could I give her water in the car? Using her normal water bowl, or will it spill in the car? Shoud I give her like a bottle or something? lol

But yea just mainly any tips and ideas you have on travelling with your dog/puppy

Thanks

My first tip would be to have a crate for your car. It's far safer for starters, and it gives a dog, or puppy, their own space in the car, when there's other luggage in there. To be honest, although I have a 'wishing well' bowl (UK - it's meant to be non spill), I don't actually leave them with any water while we are travelling. We stop frequently for comfort breaks, and for 'watering' however. We have a/c in our car so everybody is comfortable when it's hot, but do be careful not to leave her in the direct sunlight - how often have I travelled behind a car with dog right in the back, sitting in the full sun while his owners are up front completely oblivious of the fact he's panting away, in great discomfort. You could buy one of those little fans? If you don't have a/c, it might be a good idea to keep the windows of the rear doors slightly open?

Ginger biscuits is a great tip. I've tried using virtually everything, from not feeding, to feeding, to tablets, you name it as my breed isn't known for travelling well. I have, however, had some who treat the back of the car like their sofa! You might be well advised, if your pup isn't used to travelling in the car yet, doing some 'trial runs' before the big trip. Take her somewhere nice, short distance, like a park, for a good walk so she associates the car with something nice (how often is the only time our dogs go in the car is when they go to the vets!!).

But do remember to stop frequently - and make sure your puppy has her collar (tag) on while travelling just in case she should escape.

Have a good trip.

You should make sure you bring water and you should probably take stops so that your dog can get some fresh air and go to the toilet. You could also give him his water then so it doesn;t mess up your car. Also it's probably a good idea to buy your dog a chew toy or a bone to chew on to pass time.

They sell water bottles in some pet stores that have a little bowl type thing on the end like this....

Ginger snap biscuits. Can't recommend these enough, they're fantastic for car sickness. Just one biscuit about half an hour before you go.

Licky bottles, like the kind you use for rabbits are great for in the car but you can always just stop every hour and get her out and give her a drink. It's best to do this anyway so she can get out and stretch her legs and relieve herself.

We always crate our dogs on long trips, it's so much easier unless you have a dog that is happy to just sit on the back seat quietly (NOT going to happen with a puppy lol)

Pack plenty of food and water for dog/s or puppy/s.
but as we know what goes must go out so stop every 30 or 45 minute it depends on how weak or strong your dog blander is.
bring a few toys and if you have enough space a little or big dog bed (depend on size of your dog)
a good idea would be to wash your dog/s or puppy/s before you leave so you are not stuck with a gross smell in your car!
a good idea is when your car stops for the traffic light, for petrel or a toilet break put some water in a bowl. if it is hot you must keep give your dog water when ever you can!!! it is very importantt

I hope i have been helpful and i hope you have a great holiday:)
