I was recently diagnosed with narcolepsy and sleep paralysis. Researching the disorder online has finally made sense of a lot of confusing symptoms I had been having. However, one of the things that was not described was difficulty in separating dream memories/moments from real ones.
For example, I might be getting ready to go somewhere and just shower instead of doing laundry because in me dream, I did do laundry. When I go to use the clean laundry, there is nothing there and I have nothing to wear ..even though I swore I had visualized myself putting it there earlier... and if I think hard about it I might remember that I was also putting it in a car or behind a tree (which makes it obvious that this memory is coming from a dream). Things that I lost, I think I've found and vise-versa. My roommate might say that we are out of toilet paper when I thought that I had just bought some. ..It's only after thinking about it for a minute that I can see how it was in my dream. I feel like normally, people can see the difference immediately while for me, it takes a while and can even cause minor inconveniences. Sometimes I can't tell where some of the memories in my thoughts come from. I might reference something in conversation and not be able to explain where I got it. Sometimes there will be long amounts of time where this doesn't happen at all and then there will be a week where it happens all of the time.
I thought that this would be a symptom of narcolepsy because of the fact that narcoleptics can go straight in and out of REM(the dream state) without the other sleep stages, maybe not giving the mind a chance to sort things properly before waking. Couldn't find anything written on the matter. Let me know if you know what I'm talking about.
