Trying to put internet on my Compaq Evo N600c?

I want to connect my labtop to the internet but I already have my ethernet cable pulgged into my desktop. I have a moden/router (i dont know the difference) but I know it gives off wireless connection because it has an antennea and my little brother has a Zipit, and he can get online through that wireless in my house. So I dont know how to put internet on my labtop. I have no clue what Im doing, thanks in advance. Ide prefer for the connection to be wireless, if its possible.

If the laptop doesn't have a built-in wireless adapter, which you'll need to read the manual or find the information online, then you'll need to get a wireless adapter which is sold at any computer / electronics store or major retailer such as Walmart or Target in their electronics sections.
