unable to boot mac os dvd?

when i insert the mac os x install disk and press the c button...i can see the option to choose either my Harddisk or DVD, i select the DVD and the disc spins for like 20 seconds and i can see the apple in the middle of the screen and that's when it gets stuck, i waited for more than 20mins and the disk stops spinning and the only thing i can see is the apple in the middle of the white screen and nothing has happend.

any one can advise please?
