Unique Anime Suggestions?

Some of my friends are really into watching anime but I have a hard time enjoying most of them...

Can anyone suggest a couple anime that are mostly believable and somewhat serious? The concept can be out there, just I don't like absurd dialog and everything over the top. My favorite TV shows are Lost, Sopranos, TrueBlood and The Wire.

Animes I did'nt like after 20 ep.

Full Metal Alchemist

Bleach

Animes I can stand:
Afro Samuri
Spirited away

Hell Girl (Jigoku Shoujo)
Kuroshitsuji
Tantei Gakuen Q (Detective Academy Q) (they also have a drama of this)

You like shounen huh? Then my suggestion :
Blood+, Pumpkin Scisscors, Code Geass, Pandora hearts, kuroshitsuji, Fullmetal Panic, persona
