Unique traveling carnivals in the United States?

I am giving serious consideration to joining up with a traveling carnival, but I am not interested in one of your run-of-the-mill mall parking lot affairs that offer little more than a few snack booths and 10 of the same ol' rides you see everywhere. No, I want something...more. Sideshows, live animal acts or exhibits, performances, magic. SOMEthing that sets it apart from what you'd see at basically any carnival you chose to attend.

Does anyone have an ideas?
