Unlock AT&T iPhone 4 for T-Mobile Prepaid?

Is it possible to buy an iPhone 4 that's locked to AT&T and unlock it to use with a t-mobile prepaid plan? Will the gevey sim work?
I'm not planning to use any data. Just voice and text. Factory-unlocked iPhones are just so pricey..
 
yes, but if you want to use data, it will be limited to Edge (2g) speeds
