unstable internet connection on ipod touch ?

hey, i just got on my ipod touch 2nd generation a few days ago and i have wifi hooked up through a wireless DSL antenna. When i started using the internet, it was working fine and fast, but then later on that same day the internet started slowing down and my aim kept on crashing and saying, "Cannot send IM, please check your local network' or something like that. Same goes for my internet, sometimes it just crashes and then i have to reconnect again. Do you think its because my router is poor?
oh and if it matters, my internet connection is linksys ?
