Upgrade from a jailbroken 3.1.3 iphone to a jailbroken os4?

Has anyone successfully upgraded from a jailbroken 3.1.3 iphone to a jailbroken os 4?

I tried the other day using PwnageTool 4 and my phone locked up after trying to upgrade to the jailbroken os4 ipsw.

If anyone has successfully upgraded could they please tell me how they did it?

I have the old boot-rom.

i have an iphone 3G and i first upgraded to ios4. after that i used pwnage tool and then ultrasn0w to unlock
