Upgrade my sony ericsson w8 android 2.1 to 2.3?

I want to download some apps to my phone..but the apps require 2.3 android..i've seen some people's blog..they said something about xExplorer..does the process need to use computer? ?but some others said my phone cannot be upgrade..really??
