upgrading phones at verizon?

OK so I used to have verizon but a year ago i left my moms family plan and gave my phone to my younger brother and went with another carrier. well i cam back like not even 2 days ago and got back on her family plan with a new 2 year contract. I got the omnia i had been wanting it for a while and it was free. well my cousin wants to upgrade her phone to the htc droid and you can buy one get one free. i was told that if i choose to get the free droid that i have to give up my omnia. Is that true or am i able to keep like a back up phone?
 
You have to be on the same account or its a moot point. You must be on the same plan and if you are you will pay a 35.00 restocking fee for your phone. You will not be able to keep both phones. You will get a big charge on your bill if you do. Its called a chargeback.
