URGENT Can I substitute "Very Dry Sherry" for "Dry White Wine" in a recipe?!?

Help!! Thanks :)

If it makes a difference, the recipe is for sauteed chicken breasts and the amount of wine called for is 1/2 cup.

The recipe says "Dry white wine or vermouth" what's vermouth?? Thanks :)
I ended up just substituting chicken broth, but thank you all for the help! :)

Vermouth is a very dry fortified spiced white wine. Go for it - its chicken for crying out loud.

If it doesn't give you variations and substitutions for the recipe I would think no, since sherry and wine are not at all the same thing.
But to be honest I don't know, that is not a recipe I have ever used.

You can, but it will have a very different flavor and you should use less since the alchohol content is higher. Sherry is pretty potent.

You could try it and taste it, and if it seems odd add some diced tomatoes and garlic to bring the flavor around.

Or to be safer, you could subsitute chicken stock (or 1/2 cup water and 1 boullion cube) instead of sherry.

go for it...it will give it a slightly differrent flavor, but since you're cooking it, most of the alcohol will boil away anyway.
