It is a sad fact of life that even something that looks quite minor is expensive to repair. I had a rear end some years ago which I thought would cost about £50 to fix (it was a neighbour's fault but we did not want to make a song and dance about it) in the end it cost about £1500 to repair and Insurance companies had to be notified.
The best thing you can do is tell your father THE WHOLE STORY AND TAKE THE FLAK. This will not go away and the sooner he gets the insurance involved the better. When I say the whole story I mean just that because he will have to pass it on to the insurance company and if you are found to leave something out you may find robs them of any defence. Absolute honesty is required even if you consider yourself in the wrong

If the accident was your fault, yes they can make you do that. Auto refinishing and repairs ain't cheap. But always get at leats 2 estimates, 3 is better.

its a shame that the front bumper has been damaged as that is proably where most of the 2 k is in the quote there is a fair bit of pannel beating to do there to fix up the big dent in the front wheel arch and a new bumper can be expensive as they need to buy it the fit it then mix up and match the paint for it
as for the scratch on the door that is a reasonable price as the dont just spray over the scratch they basically have to sand it back till its a bigger hole but really smooth edges then they need to respray pretty much the whole door to match the paint correctly or else you will definatly see the patch job where the scratch has been painted over

you dont need to get the police involved in a car accident unless one of the cars is unable to safely drive away from the accident

it depends on your excess if its like 500 bucks then its probable worth going through your insurance i mean the only reason you have got insurance is for accidents such as this if its 1300 or more id probably just pay it myself ask your insuruer how much your payments go up if you make a claim

In Idaho an accident with more than $1,500 damage requires a written report to be submitted to the police. In some states it is less. If I'm in an accident, I am going to notify my insurance and the other driver's insurance. If the other driver asks me not to, I would of course notify them anyway. I think it would be best if you break the news to your parents before the police and their insurance company do.
