We practice Nippon Kempo at my Dojo, most of the time we are practicing standing up, (Katas, Line Drills, Kumite, etc) but occasionally, one or two times a month, we will have a Judo/Jujutsu night. My Karate gi just doesn't seem up for those nights as it is starting to tear, I'm trying to find a gi that will hold up to abuse so I'm looking at a Judo gi. My question is, will a Judo gi hinder me while we are practicing standing up, I'm mostly concerned about kicks, do Judo gi pants fit tight enough that it'll be difficult to throw a higher kick? I know a gi varies from manufacturer to manufacturer but speaking in general, will it hinder me?

Dunno.t depends on the weight of the gi.But judo gi tend to be heavier than karate gi so its uo to you to choose;)

I own a 15 oz. gi and it works great for me. I can kick just as well as I can in a lighter gi and it holds up to all of the grappling I do. With my Bujinkan training there's a lot of grabbing and throwing and rolling around on the ground. It's held up just fine. Judo gi are similar weights so I'm sure one will work well for you.
