Using a rented truck to pull a trailer? Is this illegal?

I need to know if this would be legal. I am moving from Missouri to Oklahoma and have checked prices on Uhaul and many other companies but just cannot afford them. My grandfather has a trailer that he is willing to loan me. If I were to rent a truck (such as through National car rentals) with a hitch and pull my trailer with my belongings on it would this be legal to do? I simply cannot afford to get a rental truck. I am already going to pay a lot in gas, as I have to go to Oklahoma and bring my boyfriend back to help me pack the trailer and to drive it back (unless we rent the truck in Oklahoma). We both have cars and no one in our families has a truck reliable enough for the 7 hour drive to haul our apartment's worth of stuff. I am not talking about a rental truck like from Uhaul or anything. I am talking about a rental truck that you would go rent to drive. Like if you had a wreck and rented a truck while your car got fixed or something
