destination before delivery? My friend mailed me a package from San Jose, CA using priority mail on Tuesday. It was supposed to arrive today (Thursday) in San Luis Obispo, CA (3 hours driving distance south from the departure point), told to her by the post office workers. Using the tracking number, I found out that it has been processed in Goleta, CA (1 hour and 1/2 hours driving distance south from the actual destination San Luis Obispo, CA and 4 and 1/2 hours driving distance south from the departure point San Jose, CA). Is this normal? Will it backtrack back up to San Luis Obispo, CA?

probably.

USPS tends to send things to hubs, and it sounds like you weren't in the San Jose hub.

They send it to a central distribution center first, sort the packages, then send them out. FedEx and UPS do the same exact thing.
