VGA connection from laptop to TV will not take up the entire TV screen?

I am hooking my laptop computer through a VGA cord to my TV to watch movies. (My computer doesn't have a HDTV connection and my TV does not have not have an S cord connection).

Everything works fine except the top and bottom portion of the screens are cut off. It's kind of a wide screen format but I'd rather just watch the whole TV screen.

Anyone know if there are setting that will fix this?
 
Your TV should have different aspect ratio settings. There should be a button on the remote labeled aspect or picture or size or something that changes the screen "shape".
