i was wondering if i wanted to convert a video file encoded in xvid compression inside an .mkv container to lets say a file with an avi container and xvid compression, the container would change from mkv to avi but what happens to the codec? do i have to reencode the video file with xvid or the previous file keeps it and just changes the extension?
