Coming from exposed to farming from my mother's side, That video made me hungry

Its only cruel if you have to think about it

This has been going on for millenium, the methods seem more humane nowadays

Seems simple as we eat too much meat and not enough veg but hey ho!?
It's much worse than that video if you really do your reaserch.

however, it's possible to eat all the meat you wish without buying and using factory meat such as I'm sure is shown in the video (can't see it from work). However, it is very expensive as it's much more difficult and time consuming to produce.

Truth is that most people get upset whenever they think about how slaughterhouses and factory farmed animals are handled, but they're unwilling to either quit eating that yummy steak or pay 10X the cost for certified humane meat. It's also possible for people to raise their own beef, pork, and chickens. Then they'll either a) raise them in a caring environment and not feel guilty when they're eaten, or b) (much more likely) get so irritated with the stupid things that have been bred for hundreds of years to have more mass and less brains that they'll get a sense of satisfaction knowing that the idiot animal is now in the freezer where it can't cause any more aggravation.

I love animals....they taste great

Why are there many videos on animals being slaughtered, but no one is concerned with the mega tons of fish being caught and eaten. After all, the poor fish dies in agony as it gasps for its last breath from its environment

Simply, humans are on top of the food chain. No one should feel ashamed or abhorred that we can, and should, have means to provide ourselves in order to live

The only time I think "poor cow", when I am eating a steak, is if it wasn't cooked right.

I get the majority of the meat I buy from my local butcher. It's a family business which has been going for years, and they source their meat from local farms. It's all traceable, so no worry about dodgy slaughterhouses and so forth. Even the eggs are free range.

And the beauty of it is that not only does it taste much better than the meat from the supermarket, but it's cheaper too.

I know that I'm lucky having somewhere like this, and most people don't have that luxury. But if you do find somewhere like this then I would urge you to support it with your custom. The more people support places that provide locally-sourced, traceable, quality meat then the less demand there is for mass-produced, factory farmed meat.

I personally don't eat meat (that includes fish) as I'm a vegetarian. But I did grow up on a farm and was an avid fisher woman. I also worked as a supermarket fish monger for a couple of years.

If you're concerned about animal cutlery, the simplest solution is not to buy mass produced products or animal tested products which is easy enough to do. All it takes is a second to look over the packaging. Further actions you could take is to get to know local farmers, hunters and fishermen and their practices, the easiest way to achieve this is by attending local farmers markets.

Another step you could take is by taking up hunting or fishing and getting to know whats involved in catching and preparing food. It puts you in the position of making choices that many take for granted when they pop down to the local supermarket to get a can of tuna or a steak. And it also gives you the power to kill an animal humanely if you choose to (which I always recommend).

Another option is to go Vegan. But be weary that it will be much harder nutritionally to get all of the nutrients your body needs such as vitamin B12 (most of which comes from animal products), although fortunately these days you can get foods that are vegan and fortified with synthetic vitamin B12.
