In her first 17 matches against top five players, Roberta Vinci lost all 17. Her only three wins against top 10 players have come against women ranked No. 10. She's an accomplished WTA player, having won six tournaments in her 13-year career and reaching a career high of No. 22 in the rankings last month. The wins against the top players in the game have been tough to come by.

No wonder she was so happy about defeating world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki on Wednesday in Toronto.

The 28-year-old Italian surprised Wozniacki 6-4, 7-5 in the second round of the Rogers Cup. Following the win she said it was the best day of her life.

Wozniacki didn't do herself any favors. The Dane was wildly erratic with her forehand, sending easy shots long or wide throughout the one hour, 52 minute match. Her serve was so bad that one bounced inside her own service box.

Vinci took advantage. She applied pressure in hitting the ball deep and rattled off six straight games in the second set after falling behind 5-1.

In what you may consider a coincidence, but I regard as the daily byproduct of the job, Vinci's victory came two days after she began a career as a tennis blogger. She's been posting on the WTA website since Monday.
