My 1300cc volks engine wont maintain an idle (even with adjustments with the idle screw and air/fuel screw) and I had to constantly pumping the gas pedal slightly to keep it running. If you release the pedal even a steady pressure the engine tends to stall except at near and full throttle. I had myself removed it (the 2 nuts on the base were not as tight as expected) and cleaned with a 3M carb cleaner. Since I had no spare gasket for the bottom, bowl / venturi and accelerator pump, I had them used again. Now the problem is it wont start and no squirting gasoline if I view the venturi even if it has gas in the bowl. Question is can I use the silicon gasket? and what went wrong with my procedure. Help me guys!

I would be looking at the ignition to see if the points are adjusted right or in need of replacement the point gap is 16 thousandths.Replace the points and condenser and set timing.if this doesn't work it just might be either your fuel pump or the fuel pump inside the carb that might have a small hole in it and causing it to die out on you or a vacuum leak on one of the gaskets that is in or on the carb.If i was there I would be able to fix it for you I have worked on them. You might do a fuel pump pressure test on the fuel pump or take a coffee can and pull the fuel line off the carb from the pump and see what kind of fuel it pumps out with the hose pointed at the can while someone cranks it this way you can see how much fuel comes out while it is being turned over. And the fuel pump rod might be bent which is below the fuel pump this will cause a fuel problem also if it is that situation.Or even a coil if it heats up and gets warm it will act up and cause problems.Email me at [email protected] if any other questions.
