volts and amps of a car battry for car audio?

you'll need 12V, not sure about amps just use a normal car battery's amps for comparison
 
i am converting my car audio system to fit in by house , i know i need a converter to reinact a battry that it will normlay be powwerd from , what do i need to convert to ? what volts and what amps? also any recomendations where to get one ?
 
Transformers (power packs) used to be available from CB Radio shops so I'd guess Maplins would be a good place to look first.

12v 5amp constant will be more than enough if its just for the head unit.
