So, I replaced the Master Cylinder in my '99 Beetle. Yes, I bench bled it first.
I then proceeded to bleed the entire system. Pedal feel was good and firm. Time for a test drive.
On start up ABS light stayed on. Decided to press on to see if there were any other problems...
On application of the brakes, after 2 inches of pedal travel, the pedal literally sucked itself flat to the floor, where it stayed until I put my toe under it, releasing it with a hissing air sound. The car came to a dead stop when this occured. While it did not stall, as long as the pedal was floored the engine bogged down. WTF? Can anyone help me?
